Chelsea’s Asian Cup finalist Andre Schurrle could have been seen in danger of being racially abused by a Manchester United supporter during the team’s Asian Cup final victory over the Red Devils on Saturday.
Schurrle was on the receiving end of racist abuse from a young United fan after scoring the winner against Chelsea in Guangzhou in a semi-final, but the 22-year-old was able to handle the situation calmly and effectively.
The United fan was later seen on China’s social media making an anti-Hong Kong statement with the hashtag #FreeHongKong.

When Schurrle, 18, was substituted at half time in the second half, a Manchester United supporter was seen celebrating in the same space, with his mate holding a sign that read: “Andre will kill all the foreigners” (Picture: Getty Images)
The Chinese media was quick to call out Schurrle’s actions for his ‘professionalism’ and ‘good sportsmanship’ after the incident.
