The ambitious plan, known as the LA Climate Action Strategy (LCAS) and developed by the LA Department of City Planning (DCP), the LA Department of Water and Power (DWP) and the LA Department of Neighborhoods, lays out a vision for making the city a more energy-efficient, more innovative and more sustainable city by 2045.
“This is a bold vision for a dynamic and environmentally aware city,” said Councilman Mitch O’Farrell, who chairs the Council’s Public and Environmental Services Committee. “I applaud the leadership shown by the city planning department, its agencies, and its staff. Together, we are well on our way to becoming a green and climate-friendly city.”
In its first “Vision for a Climate-Wise City,” the LCA lays out a clear, forward-thinking blueprint to address climate change to create a more sustainable environment that is conducive to meeting the needs of residents and the entire city.
The plan’s six priorities for the city are:
Ensuring that 80% of energy produced from renewable sources by 2045 is used for environmental purposes
Re-designing our transportation system to be zero emission by 2050 and zero net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2045
Establishing a citywide climate action plan with 2045 as its target date to achieve carbon neutrality
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and eliminating waste to be carbon neutral by 2045
Reassessing our energy use and energy efficiency for the future
“This vision for a climate-wise city is a bold and ambitious plan that we feel
