Rafael Nadal says he and his family are ‘very well’ after birth of first child, daughter
Nadal, the former world number one, welcomed his first child on Monday, and said his new-born daughter, also named Rafael, is ‘not the easiest’ in the world.
The world number one has had two children – daughter Rumer and son Leo – with girlfriend Nadia Nadjapour, who announced last week she was pregnant with their third child.
Nadal took to Instagram to reveal that his daughter was born while he was out with Nadia at their home in Los Angeles.
Writing about his daughter as she was born, he said: ‘What a surprise. I couldn’t tell you how, but she made it and is healthy. She is not the easiest in the world. All we can say is she is not the smallest or the strongest, but she will grow up in a great family.
‘Love is the most important thing, and so will be a big family. We are very, very happy.’
Nadal has previously admitted being’scared’ for the first time in his tennis career when he delivered their son Leo in 2017 at age 24.
‘I was scared of being a father; I was scared of the responsibility,’ Rafael Nadal told The Times in 2017 after he gave birth to his first child, Leo, at 24.
While Nadal revealed he was apprehensive about fatherhood in 2017, the world number one has been less forthcoming about the challenges he now faces as the father of his first child.

When Nadal first announced his daughter’s gender, he said in July he knew she would be a girl, but did not know for how long he would be with Nadia.
