Nicholas Goldberg: Americans don’t care about climate change. Here’s how to wake them up.
In an attempt to make up for the devastating political mistake of electing Donald Trump as President of the United States, climate scientists are making a concerted effort to engage the general public. Despite this effort, the American public continues to live in denial. This was apparent in the recent midterm elections, when the results of the election did not favor the President’s most ardent campaign supporters, and the Republican Party has suffered a significant defeat.
The good news is that we can build a movement to save our planet. A movement that is strong enough to defeat the denial of scientists and make clear that the American public understands that climate change is real.

I believe we have one powerful tool for winning this battle with the American public. The scientific method.
The scientific method has worked for over 2000 years and is still used today in all of science. It’s a proven, repeatable method that can be used by any leader to gather data and prove his or her belief in a topic. It’s an amazing tool. The problem is that the US is stuck in a century-old political paradigm in which science is only relevant to “experts”. Scientists who can afford the luxury of high-paying jobs, and not the average American.
But science is not only for scientists. In fact, the scientific method is so useful to anyone who believes in a topic, that most of the world’s population uses this method as their source of information.
The most effective way to make the American public understand the dangers of climate change is simple. The easiest way is to provide them scientific evidence of how they are impacting their lives and the lives of their loved ones.

Science has provided a proven plan that the American public can use to build a movement against climate denial. Here is a plan that anyone can implement.
